# Patient Success Stories: How Sonablate HIFU Changed Lives

Paul Sayer, from Essex, UK, received the news of his aggressive prostate disease diagnosis and was immediately faced with a decision: his treatment plan. While his physician was strongly in favor of surgery or radiotherapy, Paul understood there to be potential side effects including incontinence and/or impotence.
When researching, Paul found another treatment option: focal therapy using High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound, or HIFU. His physician shut down the conversation and said HIFU was not a suitable treatment for his disease.
Determined to find a physician who believed in focal therapy, Paul met with HIFU surgeon Professor Hashim Ahmed in London. After discussion, Paul was told he was actually “a perfect candidate” and went on to be treated with Sonablate HIFU.

Moved by the fact that there are over 12,000 men in the UK with low- to medium-grade disease being offered aggressive treatments unnecessarily, Paul started the charity Prost8 with the goal of making over-treatment a thing of the past.
